inHope

Charities UK Bristol – inHope is a Bristol-based Christian charity supporting people affected by homelessness, hunger, addiction, and poor mental health. For more than 35 years, we have welcomed vulnerable people with compassion, dignity, practical support, and hope. Our work brings together individuals, churches, community groups, companies, staff, and volunteers across Bristol. Together, we help people overcome insecurity, address immediate needs, and build stronger foundations for hopeful futures.

A Strong Bristol Legacy

Our story began in humble surroundings within Bristol’s St Paul’s area more than 35 years ago. Since then, our work has grown significantly, now reaching 14 locations across central, southern, and eastern Bristol. Our staff team includes more than 30 dedicated people, supported by hundreds of committed volunteers. This remarkable network enables us to provide consistent support while responding to changing needs within local communities. Above all, we welcome every person who comes through our doors without judgement or exclusion.

Christian Faith And Compassion

Christian faith sits at the heart of everything we do and every relationship we build. We believe God calls people to love Him, love their neighbours, and support those facing hardship. Therefore, our practical services express compassion through action, not simply through words or promises. We aim to create welcoming spaces where people feel respected, valued, heard, and encouraged. When someone feels ready for change, we walk alongside them towards greater stability, opportunity, independence, and hope.

Essential Food And Provisions

For many people, essential provisions provide the first step towards receiving wider support. Our teams provide emergency food, hot meals, drinks, clothing, toiletries, sleeping bags, and other necessities. Professional catering teams prepare nutritious and filling hot meals using donations from generous supporters. Meanwhile, Foodbank outlets provide three-day emergency food parcels across South and East Bristol. These practical resources can ease immediate pressure and help people engage more effectively with wider support services.

Safe Shelter For Women

Our female night shelter provides emergency accommodation for women throughout the year, including 365 nights. Spring of Hope offers a warm, safe, compassionate environment where women can begin healing from difficult experiences. Alongside shelter, guests can work with agencies towards longer-term accommodation and greater personal stability. This approach recognises that safe housing provides an essential foundation for recovery, confidence, and positive change. Furthermore, compassionate relationships can help guests regain trust and consider new possibilities.

Bristol Winter Shelter

During colder months, sleeping outside can become especially dangerous for people experiencing homelessness. Through the Bristol Churches Shelter, churches work together under our leadership to provide shelter and food. This partnership demonstrates how local organisations can combine resources, buildings, volunteers, and compassion for greater impact. Each guest can also work with relevant agencies while receiving essential support and encouragement. Consequently, the shelter offers more than warmth, because it creates opportunities for meaningful conversations and practical next steps.

Daytime Community Support

Every inHope venue provides daytime shelter during its opening hours for people who need somewhere safe. Visitors can rest, talk with volunteers, connect with staff, or simply spend time within supportive community surroundings. Importantly, people do not always need to explain everything immediately before receiving kindness and respect. A welcoming environment can reduce isolation while giving people space to consider their circumstances. As a result, everyday conversations can become valuable starting points for longer-term support and positive decisions.

Client Pathways And Hope

Once immediate needs receive attention, our Client Pathways team helps people consider longer-term goals. Every person has different experiences, circumstances, challenges, strengths, and aspirations, so support needs to remain flexible. Our team provides a wide range of activities and guidance designed around individual situations and priorities. Support can help people address barriers, improve circumstances, develop confidence, and move towards greater independence. Ultimately, our aim involves helping people recognise their potential and pursue futures filled with greater hope.

How You Can Help

inHope depends heavily on voluntary donations and committed volunteers who make this work possible. People can support our mission through volunteering, practical donations, fundraising, prayer, or sharing charity communications. Churches, community groups, companies, and individuals can all contribute valuable skills, resources, time, and encouragement. Every contribution can strengthen services for people experiencing homelessness, hunger, addiction, or poor mental health. As one former Spring of Hope guest shared, the charity helped provide furniture and essentials for a new home. Another person described receiving confidence and support when they had nobody else. These testimonies show why compassionate partnerships matter within Bristol communities. Working together, we can extend our reach, strengthen communities, and help more people move towards lasting hope.

Every volunteer for Charities UK Bristol brings valuable energy, practical skills, kindness, and encouragement to our daily work. Financial donations also help us maintain essential services and respond quickly when needs arise. Practical donations can provide immediate comfort while helping people feel remembered and valued. Fundraising can involve individuals, schools, churches, workplaces, or community groups joining one shared purpose. Sharing our work can also introduce new supporters who strengthen our mission for the future.
